Original Call Tool Against Mask Bans

Below is the call tool we initially used for the 2024 versions of NY’s Mask Ban. We’ve updated our call tool to be more specific to the 2025 NY mask ban language, but we wanted to keep this one available for other states to utilize as needed.

• I’m calling to oppose any mask ban legislation

  • (if Jewish) on behalf of [Jews for Mask Rights]*.

• Any version of a mask ban is dangerous, which is why I want to ask the Senator to oppose S9867 in any form.

• I care deeply about this because [personal reason].

  • Do you or someone you care about need to mask?

  • Are you protecting someone’s health?

  • Do you not want to see masks criminalized?

  Selected items will highlight for improved visibility

  • Everyone deserves to protect themselves and others without question. No health exemption can cover that.

  • Masks are a protective medical tool that should not be stigmatized.

  • Stigmatizing masks will increase anti-mask violence and harassment.

  • Mask bans will disproportionately harm BIPOC communities through profiling.

  • There is no evidence that banning masks will deter crime, but historically these bans have been used to target marginalized groups.

  • The law was repealed because of the pandemic. We can't bring it back when we're at 1 million COVID cases a day, even during summer.

  • There is no reason to revive an archaic 200-year-old law. The old law was created 50 years before viruses were discovered.
